Are you a nature lover? Did you come to Costa Rica to see as many exotic species as you can? Are you fascinated by the mysteries of a tropical jungle? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then there are two fantastic nature tours that you shouldn’t miss when you stay with us at the Blue Surf Sanctuary Hotel in Santa Teresa. Luckily for us, we are within driving distance of two of Costa Rica’s most outstanding protected parks. Touring through either of these two amazing parks is a great way to learn more about Costa Rica and its beautiful biodiversity. Please let one of the receptionist at the Blue Surf Sanctuary know if you are interested in either of these two tours.
Cabo Blanco National Park Hike
Cabo Blanco National Park is located at the southernmost tip of the Nicoya Peninsula and it is sandwiched between the two lovely fishing villages of Mal Pais and Cabuya. Cabo Blanco was the first protected park in Costa Rica and it has been a national treasure since it opened in 1963. Cabo Blanco is an especially important National Park because its opening marked an important change in this country’s mentality and government policy. It signaled the beginning of Costa Rica’s growing respect for nature and it spawned the ecotourism movement that is so prevalent throughout Costa Rica today.
This Nature & Wildlife Tour takes you through this beautiful and recovered forest. With your private naturalist guide, you will get to enjoy some of Cabo Blanco’s 140 species of trees as well as a wide variety of exotic mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds.
This nature hike will take 2+ hours. Your bilingual naturalist guide will meet you for your Costa Rica hiking adventure at the Blue Surf Sanctuary Hotel at 7am so that you can be at the park entrance when it opens at 8am. Please remember to bring comfortable hiking shoes, water, insect repellent, a hat, sun protection, sunglasses, a swimsuit, a towel and of course, your camera. Also, please note that the Cabo Blanco National Park is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Curu Wildlife Refuge
The Curu Wildlife Refuge is a privately owned and protected park just outside of Tambor on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. It was a cattle and agricultural farm until 1983 when it was declared Wildlife Reserve. Curu is rich in diverse wildlife and it is an especially great tour because you will get a chance to wind your way through five different ecosystems. You will explore a marine zone, mangrove swamps, tropical dry forests, moist jungle and even farmland. There are also an abundance of tropical fruit trees throughout Curu that attract all kinds of wildlife, pretty much guaranteeing that your camera won’t stop clicking all tour long. There are three species of monkeys that inhabit the Curu Wildlife Reserve as well as over 50 different types of mammals and more than 200 species of birds. You may also see a wide variety of reptiles, amphibians, insects and marine life.
This tour is also 2+ hours long plus one-hour transportation time before and after the tour. Your bilingual naturalist guide will meet you at the Blue Surf Sanctuary Hotel at 7am. Again, please remember to bring comfortable hiking shoes, water, insect repellent, a hat, sun protection, sunglasses, a swimsuit, a towel and of course, your camera.
