Top 5 Places to Enjoy a Sunset Cocktail in Santa Teresa Costa Rica

Santa Teresa is such a beautiful place in Costa Rica to visit. One of the most common questions that we get from our guests here at the Blue Surf Sanctuary Hotel is “Where should I go to Enjoy a Sunset Cocktail in Santa Teresa Costa Rica?” Well… there are actually a handful of great places in and around Santa Teresa that I can recommend for you to go to enjoy the changing colours of the sunset, to people watch and to possibly even enjoy a sunset cocktail.

1. Vista de Olas

In my opinion, Vista de Olas is a must for at least one of your sunsets while you are on vacation in Santa Teresa. Vista de Olas is located in Mal Pais so you either need to take a taxi or have a rental car or ATV to get there. It costs $16 per person to enjoy their sunset view and their pool but it is worth it. The $16 per person can be spent on either drinks or appetizers. The view is just spectacular as their pool overlooks the beaches of Mal Pais, Playa Carmen, Playa Santa Teresa and Playa Hermosa. They do also serve dinner at Vista de Olas however, I only recommend that you stay for sunset and enjoy a dinner out at some of the better restaurants in town. Vista de Olas is my number one choice on my list of Places to Enjoy a Sunset Cocktail in Santa Teresa Costa Rica!

2. Sunday Family Day at Rocamar

If you are in Santa Teresa on a Sunday, the thing to do for sunset is to walk to Rocamar. Luckily for our guests at the Blue Surf Sanctuary Hotel, Rocamar is just down the road from us so all the fun is literally steps away. Sunday Family Day’s at Rocamar are a favourite event among locals and tourists alike. Usually, there are anywhere from 50-300 people at these events and they are great for families and people of all ages. There is a DJ, a bonfire, hoola hoopers, and games/activities for kids. It is fun for the whole family! Rocamar is my number two choice on my list of Places to Enjoy a Sunset Cocktail in Santa Teresa Costa Rica and if you are at Blue Surf Sanctuary on a Sunday, it may be number one because to the close proximity.

3. Banana Beach

Banana Beach is a relatively new bar on the beach here in Santa Teresa and it has been a hit ever since it opened last year. Located just in front of the old Luz de Vida, this is a great place to unwind and enjoy the sunset. There are a lot of diverse seating options including swings and even day beds. There is also often live music at sunset as well as a variety of drink specials. Banana Beach is my number three choice on my list of Places to Enjoy a Sunset Cocktail in Santa Teresa Costa Rica!

4. Ranchos Itauna

Ranchos Itauna is another fun place to watch the wonderful sunsets that we get here in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. Ranchos Itauna hosts ‘The Sunset Sessions’ Tuesdays through Saturdays every week. They offer a beach BBQ with local DJs, a fire show and a bon fire. The beach in front of Ranchos Itauna is rocky tho so if you are looking to take a dip at sunset, this might not be the place for you. Ranchos Itauna is my number four choice on my list of Places to Enjoy a Sunset Cocktail in Santa Teresa Costa Rica!

5. Dayka

Dayka is definitely an off-the-beaten track sunset option. Locally run by Costa Ricans, it is a great option for those of you looking to do something a little different for sunset. Dayka is located in Manzanillo and what makes this so different as a sunset option is that it overlooks the inland valleys of Costa Rica and not the ocean. They specialize in seafood and they have a great pool that makes it a great choice for families or friends looking to do something a little different. They are closed on Thursdays. Dayka is my number five choice on my list of Places to Enjoy a Sunset Cocktail in Santa Teresa Costa Rica!
